Professional training has seen quite an upheaval with the digital age.

Companies no longer train their employees like they did in the past. Over a relatively short period, everything has changed completely: teaching methods, available training systems, content and their delivery methods, and even testing.

Companies are still growing to international markets at an increased rate, and training content must absolutely follow.

Definition of e-learning

E-learning, blended-learning (which unites the best of both worlds, on site and remote), micro-learning (on smartphones, taking advantage of downtimes throughout the day), and training platforms have become the newest trends on the market. There are a number of LMS (learning management systems) on the market, such as 360learning (proprietary) or Moodle (open source) to support businesses in the creation of their training content.

Training managers have had to adapt to these changes and have proved their creativity in the creation of training modules combining text, videos, interactive quizzes, and gamification to help motivate learners and aid in the memorization and internalization of the core concepts.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which play a massive role in lifelong learning.

E-learning and translation

In an international company, the translation of training modules is often a pure necessity. It’s obvious that the learner will retain the information far better in their native language.

These translations are often technical on two different levels:

– the translation of the technical content (HR, trades, finances, etc.)

– the file formats of the content can also be technical: a single module can contain text, interactive quizzes coded in HTML, videos to subtitle (srt), etc.

Whether these are tutorials destined for clients, long term skill development of employees, training content for in-store teams, training for a specific piece of software… whatever the case, the translation requires specific mastery over the speciality concerned.

As learning is often based on the repetition of concepts, which means our CAT tools will allow us to account for the repetitions and harmonize the translations over multiple modules. This solution can also help our clients save a lot of time and money.

Localization of training platforms

As our translator’s work through the translation, they will inform us of any inconsistencies they notice. These incosistencies may simply be a particular module that proves culturally inappropriate to the target audience. For example, a sales technique that is too agressive for the target country or touches of humor that are sure to fall flat based on local culture. This is what we call localization of content. The information relayed to us will be forwarded onto our clients in order to define the best options together.
